The Great Shamnesty Bill of McCain-Kenedy is dead....for now. The vote for cloture failed miserably and the bill has been shelved. Michele Malkin has ALL the juicy details. Lindsey Graham was sobbing in the Senate hallway. Collateral damage includes the destruction of John McCain's Presidential campaign. All is right with the world! As my ole pal Jarrod use to say, "and that is that!"

Whooooooo, New Jewelry!

Paris Hilton was released from jail last night after serving 3 days of her 45 day sentence for being a, well, horses ass. She was awarded a GPS ankle bracelet device for her efforts and confined to her mansion in Los Angeles. Upon arriving home she was distraught to learn that shoes and a handbag to match her new ankle bracelet would have to be custom made.

Let down by Gucci....Life is Tough.

Well, we all know that olde urban legend about "Don't Eat Yellow Snow". Seems maybe that discolored snow has a far wider impact. Yes kids, it may be a cause of Glowball Warming. Yup, uh huh.

I can't wait for the movie.....
Shamnesty on the Senate Floor

Michele Malkin is liveblogging the ongoing debate in the Senate over the McCain-Kennedy (ed note: Boy, there's a pair to draw too!) amnesty for Illegal Aliens Bill. Hissy fits from McCain waterboy Lindsey Graham and some strategic parliamentary moves by the Conservative Republicans and their Democrat allies. High theatre in the "most deliberative body" in the world. (Except when we have a bill we want to ram down your throat without you having a chance to read it)

I can't wait to meet the new neighbors!

Corruptus Democratus Partius

Let's all gather round and marvel at the way the Main Stream Media jumps all over this story about yet another corrupt politician with the moniker "William Jefferson", except this ones from Louisiana. 16 count 94 page indictment for which he could serve over 200 years.

I am confident the MSM will be questioning, neh, badgering HRH Pelosi as to when he will lose his committee membership in her "mostethicalHouseever". They will hound Rep. Jefferson for a response to the charges and maybe even play the film of him accepting the bribe money for comment. They will undoubtedly question the other Representatives that received the proceeds of these bribes as "campaign" contributions from Mr. William Jefferson (D) Louisiana. You know these Representatives: (via Red State Blog)

Jefferson donated nearly $140,000 to the Democrats’ campaign committee. Jefferson also gave thousands to Democrat House members and candidates, including freshmen Nick Lampson, D-TX, Heath Shuler, D-NC, and Ciro Rodriguez, D-TX.
Lampson and Shuler received contributions from Jefferson’s re-election committee, while Rodriguez received $1,000 from Jefferson’s political action committee, the Future PAC. Only Lampson is reported to have returned Jefferson’s contribution.
Other Democrats who received financial support from Jefferson are:
Sanford Bishop, $1000;
Corrine Brown, $2000;
Lois Capps, $500;
Julia Carson, $1000;
Donna Christensen, $1000;
Emanuel Cleaver, $2000;
Chet Edwards, $1000;
Al Green, $2000;
Alcee Hastings, $1000;
Barbara Lee, $1000;
John Lewis, $500;
Carolyn McCarthy, $1000;
Charlie Melancon, $2000;
Gwendolynne Moore, $1000;
Brad Sherman, $1000; and
Mel Watt, $1000.

I'm sure they will have the story out in no time........watch for the "breaking news" headline..........

BDS, Hmmmmm?

I have not been well of late. feeling just outta sorts. Maybe I have BDS...you know, Bush Derangement Syndrome. Generally this only afflicts loonie liberal moonbats, both barking and non-barking, yet, the symptoms are there. Howie Carr has the details...maybe you got it too!

I am so far out of the BDS demo - I don’t have a trust fund, a ponytail or hot flashes. I have two jobs. I laugh at Deval Patrick and carbon credits. I do not go to movies made by Michael Moore or Al Gore. I have no bumper stickers saying either Kerry-Edwards or 1-20-09.

But BDS can sneak up on you faster than a resolution banning trans-fat in SUVs at Brookline Town Meeting. Like so many other Americans, I first tested positive for BDS on May 18. That was the day George Bush and Ted Kennedy announced their amnesty bill for 12 - or is it 20? . . . or 30? - million illegal aliens.

Perhaps you’re familiar with the early symptoms of BDS - as soon as you see George Bush on TV you reach for the remote control, because if you don’t, you know you’ll start yelling at the TV set, scaring the children yet again.

Is BDS fatal? Not usually, but it may soon claim its first victim: the presidential campaign of John McCain. He’s sinking like a stone in the polls and I suspect full-blown BDS. It wasn’t supporting George Bush’s war that doomed McCain, it was supporting his amnesty bill.

Go read the whole enchilada. It would be even funnier, if it wasn't true.

Pardon Me?!

Scooter Libby gets 2 1/2 years in a Federal Prison for not keeping notes and having a memory that slipped. I took a deposition the other day and the over educated deponent could not remember what happened 4 months ago...yet ole Scooter is a criminal for not having the sequence of events right on a passing conversation years prior. Oh, and HE IS NOT the one who "outed" Valerie Plame as the MSM is pitching this. Richard Armitage did that. He wasn't prosecuted.....go figure.

As for El Presidente Bush....Mr Loyalty, well Bill Kristol at the Weekly Standard hits that topic hard:

Will Bush pardon Libby? Apparently not--even if it means a man who worked closely with him and sought tirelessly to do what was right for the country goes to prison. Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino, noting that the appeals process was underway, said, "Given that and in keeping with what we have said in the past, the president has not intervened so far in any other criminal matter and he is going to decline to do so now."

So much for loyalty, or decency, or courage. For President Bush, loyalty is apparently a one-way street; decency is something he's for as long as he doesn't have to take any risks in its behalf; and courage--well, that's nowhere to be seen. Many of us used to respect President Bush. Can one respect him still? (emphasis added)

Indeed.

Say What?!

Seems ole Pooty Poot has his nickers in a twist over the United States protecting Europe with a missile defense shield. So his solution is to target European cities to ....protect Russia. Huh?

Is there some logic in there somewhere?

Mr. Putin, in an interview at his country residence outside Moscow, said he considers U.S. plans to build an eastern European anti-missile site to shoot down Iranian missiles a provocation aimed at Russia.

Can a Cold War exist in an era of GlowBall Warming? Consensus anyone?
Consensus, Not Quite..

So this reporter sets out to explore the opinions of the few scientists that deny the links of humans to GlowBall Warming. The "Deniers" as the Goreacle refers to them. The reporter, Lawrence Solomon of the Canadian Newspaper the Financial Post figures he will meet with six of these naysayers and document their "opinions for posterity. Should not be to big of a job after all, there is consensus amongst the worlds "top scientists, right? Well a funny thing happened. He learned there is no consensus, The Goreacle is a liar. Imagine that.

Here is an excerpt:

My series set out to profile the dissenters -- those who deny that the science is settled on climate change -- and to have their views heard. To demonstrate that dissent is credible, I chose high-ranking scientists at the world's premier scientific establishments. I considered stopping after writing six profiles, thinking I had made my point, but continued the series due to feedback from readers. I next planned to stop writing after 10 profiles, then 12, but the feedback increased. Now, after profiling more than 20 deniers, I do not know when I will stop -- the list of distinguished scientists who question the IPCC grows daily, as does the number of emails I receive, many from scientists who express gratitude for my series.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped believing that a scientific consensus exists on climate change. Certainly there is no consensus at the very top echelons of scientists -- the ranks from which I have been drawing my subjects -- and certainly there is no consensus among astrophysicists and other solar scientists, several of whom I have profiled. If anything, the majority view among these subsets of the scientific community may run in the opposite direction. Not only do most of my interviewees either discount or disparage the conventional wisdom as represented by the IPCC, many say their peers generally consider it to have little or no credibility. In one case, a top scientist told me that, to his knowledge, no respected scientist in his field accepts the IPCC position.

The Revenue Dance

Blogging was down for the month of May, revenue was up. Draw thy own conclusions...follow the dancing Bear!
So Sad... Too Bad

June 1, 2007 marks the day the President lost me. I have absolutely no clue what George Bush is up to any more. He left my party, we are still here..... yet like a bad influence that you will not allow near your family, the support for this President is gone. Finito.....

Details? Go read Peggy Noonan. She is much more eloquent than a simple Rumbear...

Ms. Noonan says President Bush "has torn the conservative coalition asunder." She even suggests that conservatives for some time "have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome."

One of the things I have come to think the past few years is that the Bushes, father and son, though different in many ways, are great wasters of political inheritance. They throw it away as if they'd earned it and could do with it what they liked. Bush senior inherited a vibrant country and a party at peace with itself. He won the leadership of a party that had finally, at great cost, by 1980, fought itself through to unity and come together on shared principles. Mr. Bush won in 1988 by saying he would govern as Reagan had. Yet he did not understand he'd been elected to Reagan's third term. He thought he'd been elected because they liked him. And so he raised taxes, sundered a hard-won coalition, and found himself shocked to lose his party the presidency, and for eight long and consequential years. He had many virtues, but he wasted his inheritance.

Bush the younger came forward, presented himself as a conservative, garnered all the frustrated hopes of his party, turned them into victory, and not nine months later was handed a historical trauma that left his country rallied around him, lifting him, and his party bonded to him. He was disciplined and often daring, but in time he sundered the party that rallied to him, and broke his coalition into pieces. He threw away his inheritance. I do not understand such squandering.

The whole article is worthy of a few moments of your time. Many virtues squandered, indeed........

The boys over at Powerline chime in

Now, it seems that much of the Republican base is irate about the Bush administration's deviations and is looking for a dyed-in-the-wool conservative for 2008. For many, Fred Thompson is that candidate; whether he really is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative remains to be seen.

Yes, we shall see......

"Fred Dalton Thompson is planning to enter the presidential race over the Fourth of July holiday, announcing that week that he has already raised several million dollars and is being backed by insiders from the past three Republican administrations, Thompson advisers told The Politico."

NRO reports that THEIR inside source (TA3) says the Politico got it wrong. Jim Geraghty sums it up..."My gut instinct after talking with TA3 is that there will be an announcement in July, but not July 4."

John McCain said "F %#$*!", again, reports the Rumbear!

Young Miss Lohan has another car accident while, uh hmmmm, "intoxicated". So she's headed back to the detox program at the Malibu haute spot "Promises". Just recently it was Brittany Spears who was the celebrity flavor of the month bouncing in and out of rehab. So, the Rumbear was a wundering.......Is it any indication of the effectiveness of the program when it's star attendees seem to, well, fail, repeatedly? I mean, is repeat business really a good thing for a rehab facility? Like I said, just wundering.
Fred's In?.....

One of the boys over at Powerline is whispering....."...later today Fred Thompson will take the next step on the road to becoming a presidential candidate."

Carburetion Day!

Known for many years as “Carburetion Day,” and shortened only in fairly recent years simply to “Carb Day,” it refers to the day on which cars qualified for the starting field are given the opportunity to practice in “Race Day trim,” as opposed to the less economical setups required for out-and-out speed during time trials. A major portion of this used to involve adjustment to the carburetors, but even after the introduction of fuel injection in the late 1940s, the original term “carburetion runs” continued to be used. For the record, the stock-block Ford-powered Lotus cars of Jim Clark and Dan Gurney in 1963 were the last to actually use carburetors on Carburetion Day.

The Indy 500 is this weekend. The "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" is an event to behold. The Andretti Family tries to end a long drought and take home the Borg-Warner Cup. Damn, I need to get together with Gator in Marketing and visit this one again!!

HOCKEYBALL!!!

Well, the season ended last nite for my beloved WINGS! They tried to win a game by playing one of the three regulation periods. It almost worked. The Ducks played 2 periods of the game and eeked out a win. Thus ends the series wherein the Ducks played 2 good games and won the best of seven match up, while the Wings played three goods games and lost. Go figure. The Stanley Cup Finals between the Ducks and Ottawa Senators looks to have all of the excitement of watching paint dry.

It was a great run for the boys and they will be back in the hunt later this year....for now....GOLF!

Let's say I break into your house...

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.

But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family

(my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house

And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America....

War Spending Bill!

Well, well...I wonder if this will get the HUGE headlines in the MSM the way HRH Peelosi's first planned withdrawal of troops bill did? Those Democrats.......They sure showed that George Bush feller didn't they?!

WASHINGTON - In grudging concessions to President Bush , Democrats intend to draft an Iraq war-funding bill without a time line for the withdrawal of U.S. troops and shorn of billions of dollars in spending on domestic programs, officials said Monday.

Now if we just had a Republican President for domestic policy we could stop dressing up pigs.
Amnesty

Main Entry: am·nes·ty
Pronunciation: 'am-n&-stE
Function: nounInflected Form(s): plural -ties
Etymology: Greek amnEstia forgetfulness, from amnEstos forgotten, from a- + mnasthai to remember --

Def: the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals

Comprehensive Illegal Imigration Act = Amnesty. You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig.

...You thought the Illegal Immigration Amnesty Bill could not get any worse, this is disclosed.

The Bush administration insisted on a little-noticed change in the bipartisan Senate immigration bill that would enable 12 million undocumented residents to avoid paying back taxes or associated fines to the Internal Revenue Service, officials said.

Could someone explain why we, the taxpayers of this country, owe anything to people who enter it illegally? I do not get it. Why are we beholding to them? They were not invited, we don't want them, yet, we must pay. Where's the logic?

Perhaps Congress and El Presidente Bush should listen to Varifrank ..

Every once in a great while as you serve in public office you might want to try to satisfy the people who voted you into office, even if you personally disagree with it.

Oh, and when do I get tax relief?

More Fred...

Just can't get enuff! Great article by Peggy Noonan is up over at the Wall Street Journal Online.

He is running a great campaign. It's just not a declared campaign. It's a guerrilla campaign whose informality is meant to obscure his intent. It has been going on for months and is aimed at the major pleasure zones of the Republican brain. In a series of pointed columns, commentaries and podcasts, Mr. Thompson has been talking about things conservatives actually talk about.

I can't summarize...you need to read the whole enchilada.....

Comprehensive or Incomprehensible?

By Fred Thompson

Most Americans know that we have an illegal immigration problem in this country, with perhaps as many as 20 million people residing here unlawfully. And I think most Americans have a pretty good idea about how to at least start solving the problem – secure our nation’s borders.

But there’s an old saying in Washington that, in dealing with any tough issue, half the politicians hope that citizens don’t understand it while the other half fear that people actually do. This kind of thinking was apparent with the “comprehensive” immigration reform bill that the U.S. Senate and the White House negotiated yesterday.

I’d tell you what was in the legislation, but 24 hours after the politicians agreed the bill looked good, the Senate lawyers were still writing what may turn out to be a one thousand page document. In fact, a final version of the bill most likely will not be made available to the public until after the legislation is passed. That may come five days from now. That’s like trying to digest an eight-course meal on a 15-minute lunch break.

We’ve tried the “comprehensive” route before to solve the illegal immigration problem with a bit more care and deliberation, and the results haven’t been good. Back in May 1985, Congress promised us that it would come up with a comprehensive plan to solve the problem of illegal immigration and our porous borders. Eighteen months later, in November 1986, that comprehensive plan was signed into law.

Twenty-two years and millions of illegal immigrants later, that comprehensive plan hasn’t done what most Americans wanted it to do — secure America’s borders. Now Washington says the new “comprehensive” plan will solve the problem that the last comprehensive plan didn’t.

The fact is our border and immigration systems are still badly broken. We were reminded of this when Newsweek reported that the family of three of the men, arrested last week for allegedly plotting to kill American military personnel at Fort Dix, New Jersey, entered the U.S. illegally more than 20 years ago; filed for asylum back in 1989, but fell off the government’s radar screen when federal bureaucrats essentially lost track of the paperwork. Wonder how many times that’s been replicated?

Is it any wonder that a lot of folks today feel like they’re being sold a phony bill of goods on border security? A “comprehensive” plan doesn’t mean much if the government can’t accomplish one of its most basic responsibilities for its citizens — securing its borders. A nation without secure borders will not long be a sovereign nation.

No matter how much lipstick Washington tries to slap onto this legislative pig, it’s not going to win any beauty contests. In fact, given Congress’s track record, the bill will probably get a lot uglier — at least from the public’s point of view. And agreeing to policies before actually seeing what the policies are is a heck of a way to do business.

We should scrap this “comprehensive” immigration bill and the whole debate until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders — or at least made great headway. That would give proponents of the bill a chance to explain why putting illegals in a more favorable position than those who play by the rules is not really amnesty.

Illegal Immigration...

Well, we know that President Bush and John McCain along with a host of other middle of the road Republicans will sell out the conservative base.....

I Wonder What Fred Thinks?.....

I think its time for a little plain talk to the leaders of Mexico. Something like: hey guys, you’re our friends and neighbors and we love you but it’s time you had a little dose of reality. A sovereign nation loses that status if it cannot secure its own borders and we are going to do whatever is necessary to do so, although our policies won’t be as harsh as yours are along your southern border. And criticizing the U.S. for alternately doing too much and too little to stop your illegal activities is not going to set too well with Americans of good will who are trying to figure a way out of the mess that your and our open borders policy has already created.

My friends, it’s also time for a little introspection. Since we all agree that improving Mexico’s economy will help with the illegal-immigration problem, you might want to consider your own left-of -center policies. For example, nationalized industries are not known for enhancing economic growth. Just a thought. But here’s something even more to the point that you might want to think about: What does it say about the leadership of a country when that country’s economy and politics are dependent upon the exportation of its own citizens?

Republican candidates...give me a break. Yet, there is hope my friends. It's name may be Fred Thompson...

What the Hail?

The MSM is trumpeting a "deal" by President Bush and the "Senate Leaders" on a bill regarding illegal immigration. What are they hailing? Where is the bill? Why can't anyone read it? Why do I have to listen to Ted Kennedy, of all people, tell me what's in it?

If it is so darn good...LET"S SEE IT!

As that little olde lady used to say "Where's the BEEF?!"

Say What!?

GlowBall Warming converts! Er, but they are "converting" the wrong way! Yup, check out this article,

Following the U.S. Senate's vote today on a global warming measure (see today's AP article: Senate Defeats Climate Change Measure,) it is an opportune time to examine the recent and quite remarkable momentum shift taking place in climate science. Many former believers in catastrophic man-made global warming have recently reversed themselves and are now climate skeptics. The names included below are just a sampling of the prominent scientists who have spoken out recently to oppose former Vice President Al Gore, the United Nations, and the media driven “consensus” on man-made global warming. (Emphasis Added)

Well, well, well seems the chicken little movement led by the Goreacle may be running a little thin in the "science" department. Amazing what can happen when facts get in the way of consensus. In any event we welcome these scientists to the side of truth....It's a good day........free pocket protectors for everyone!!

Pullease..... Matthews is a hack whose career was at a pinnacle when he was writing "malaise" speeches for "Jimmah" and pouring cheap scotch for Tip O'Neill. Olberman is simply not worthy of comment. Party of Reagan...Ronaldus Maximus would have tossed them outta the library.
Consensus is Fred Thompson won....and he was not even there.

For hard reporting head on over to VodkaPundit....Stephen is drunk blogging the event. Waiter!

Inquiring Minds Want to Know….

President Bush vetoed that “War Spending Bill” as the French say “Toute Suite”. The Democrats in Congress are up in arms. (no pun intended?!) The "will" of the American peoples has been thwarted as Hairy Reid and HRH Pelosi are want to say. So, I have a few questions;

How come they needed to promise 25 BILLION in pork to get their brethren in the House & Senate to support the bill?

Was it the will of the American peoples to have them spend the 25 BILLION and throw in a little something, something for that thing the Dem’s can’t call a war in Iraq?

How, exactly does a third rate Senator from Nevada who has NEVER run for a national office and with an approval rating lower than the Presidents get to tell the American peoples about their “will”?

and the most obvious....why don't you assert the "will" of the people and just override the veto?

Hmmmm…?

This bill was not and is not about the "war" or your will. It was and remains, about the Democrats promoting themselves while playing politics.....with war.

Veto!

Well that didn't take long! The bill was dead on arrival. With a rapier like pen and degree of backbone unseen in the Washington DC area for awhile, President Bush vetoed the "War Spending" bill shortly after it landed on his desk.

The pork laden "War Spending" bill, you remember, the one with 25 BILLION in programs to save pretty much everyone who voted for it favorite cause. That's how HRH Pelosi garnered support for the bill, by promising YOUR tax money for pet projects. No vote, No project. Still drawing a blank? Okay, let's review...

Democrats also included about $20 billion for domestic spending, which Bush and congressional Republicans attack as pork barrel spending. The money would go for a variety of programs including veterans' health care, Gulf Coast hurricane aid, health care for poor children, drought relief for Midwest farmers and California citrus growers, and $60.4 million to help Pacific Coast salmon fishermen. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., announced that the bill also includes $94.1 million to repair California levees.

But the bill dropped a House provisions sought by Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel, that would have provided $25 million to help California spinach growers recover from last winter's E. coli crisis.

Say it with me "War Spending" bill....What does that mean to you?......spinach growers, drought relief, levee repairs, aide to salmon fisherman......R I G H T .....I am sure these are all wonderful causes, but the war is in Iraq.

"War Spending" bill, indeed........
Mission Accomplished!

Four years ago today the President ventured forth on to the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln and used those words to signify that major combat operations in Iraq had ended. As Lex puts it:

That ceremony was intended to recognize the accomplishments of the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln, a ship that had just returned from an exceptionally arduous 10-month deployment - the longest combat deployment of an aircraft carrier in decades.

Of course, it also signified the beginning of the Democrats attempts surrender to Al Quaeda. That effort reaches a crescendo today as the Democrat Leadership finally sends it's pork laden "War Spending" bill to the President for signing.

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AP) - Moving toward a veto of a war spending bill, President Bush said Tuesday that Democrats who made the legislation a showdown over withdrawing U.S. troops could turn Iraq into a "cauldron of chaos" with their approach.

"Success in Iraq is critical to the security of free people everywhere," Bush said at the headquarters of U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, including Iraq.

Congress was expected to send the bill to the president sometime Tuesday, and he planned to veto it either later in the day or early Wednesday.

Use the veto Mr. President. Stand tall for our troops and use the veto.

Happy May Day!

Yup, it's the day we hold the Celebration for Illegal Migration. Big doings in Los Angeles...

"The emphasis is to stay in school, get your education and participate in any demonstration you want to after school," said Dan Isaacs, Los Angeles Unified School District chief operating officer. "To the degree that we can cause students to remain on campus and discuss the issues, that's our primary goal.

"But if students walk out, school officials plan to march with them — walkie-talkies and cellphones in hand — to help protect them. In addition, buses will be on call to take students back to their respective schools after the march is over, officials said.

"We honor their 1st Amendment rights, even though that gets in the way of their schooling," said Richard Chavez, a high school director for local District 5, which encompasses much of East Los Angeles. "This is a lesson on civics."

Civics lesson indeed..how about a geography lesson? and, and what ever happened to Truant Officers? Just asking......
