Mt Whitney. 14,505 feet

Cool photos. Tallest peak in the Lower 48.

Shown here are the routes to the top from Whitney Portal outside of Lone Pine, California. I have been on top twice.

Launch out of Whitney Portal and start going up. Generally, your goal is Trail Camp at the foot of the 100 switchback portion.  Get up to Trail Crest and the view takes in the front and backside of the Sierras.  From Trail Crest the summit is a long slog.  You are at 13000 feet going higher.  The last 1/2 mile to the summit is grueling.  The view from the top is spectacular on a clear day.

Been up to Trail Camp 4-5 times.  Always enjoyed staying a week or two at 12,000 feet.  Hike around up there and it will sort out what ails you.....or kill ya.
