Mr. Obama's winning platform can be boiled down to one word: change.

Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.
This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning.

Not sure how I missed this. Capt. Tony Tarracino passed away on November 1st. Among other things, the good Captain ran a bar in Key West for years and was memorialized in the Jimmy Buffet song "Last Mango in Paris". He was a fixture at the bar even after he sold it in 1989. He even ran for Mayor of Key West a few times. One occasion his campaign slogan was "All you need in this life is a tremendous sex drive and a great ego. Brains don't mean a shit."

Capt Tony's ....... been there done that, bought and wore out the t-shirt. My first time was back in the late 70's with Gator. We pointed the rental car south outta Tampa over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Hurtling southbound towards the Keys with a chum and a bottle of rum. Good times.

If liberals are going to use their first majority vote in a national election since Helen Thomas was spilling champagne on Liza at Studio 54 to lecture Republicans on how to win elections, I have a tip for them based on the exact same election: Constitutional amendments banning gay marriage passed in every state they were on the ballot -- Florida, Arizona, even in liberal California. I'll accept the results of the presidential election, if you anti-Proposition 8 die-hards in California accept the results of that vote.

Since our last meeting we have been through a disastrous election. It is easy for us to be discouraged, as pundits hail that election as a repudiation of our philosophy and even as a mandate of some kind or other.

But the significance of the election was not registered by those who voted, but by those who stayed home. If there was anything like a mandate it will be found among almost two-thirds of the citizens who refused to participate.

Americans are hungry to feel once again a sense of mission and greatness.

I don ‘t know about you, but I am impatient with those Republicans who after the last election rushed into print saying, “We must broaden the base of our party”—when what they meant was to fuzz up and blur even more the differences between ourselves and our opponents.

Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.

I do not believe I have proposed anything that is contrary to what has been considered Republican principle. It is at the same time the very basis of conservatism. It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way.

Strategery?

In the spirit of compromise and "can't we all just get along", the One has appointed Rahm "Rahmbo" Emmanuel as his Chief of Staff. This is a guy that Paul "The Forehead" Begala, his friend, describes as some one who is a “cross between a hemorrhoid and a toothache.”. I am sure he meant that in a nice way.

So, what do Republicans do? a.) Wait until January and field the onslaught of liberal programs or b.) run some offense say....oh...right now. I'm for option b. Here's a start.....

And now, a thought experiment: what would Rahm Emanuel do if he had Congressman John Boehner's job as House Minority Leader?

That's easy. Put as many long-range torpedoes into the water aimed at Senator Obama's ship of state before Republicans lose control of the Executive Branch as possible. Here are a few:

*Appoint U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Patrick Fitzpatrick as a special prosecutor so he can pursue his investigation of Tony Rezko and his corrupt dealings with Illinois's governor and other creatures and spoilsmen of the Daley Machine. This will make it politically difficult for a President Obama to pardon Mr. Rezko and impossible for him to terminate Mr. Fitzpatrick as a federal officer come January 21 as a way of de-railing this investigation.

* Appoint a special prosecutor to investigate ACORN's voter registration methods and its dealings with the Obama campaign.

* Appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Obama campaign's on-line fundraising operation, including its disabling of the credit card security software on its on-line donations system. File a complaint with the Federal Election Commission regarding same.

* Appoint a bipartisan (love that word!) presidential commission to review the candidates' fundraising in this election cycle and to recommend changes in federal election laws.

* File ethics complaints against Sen. Chris Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank for their relationship with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Countrywide Mortgage.

Be it noted that, in his day, this is probably what Newt Gingrich would have done, too. It was then-Congressman Gingrich's persistent filing of ethics complaints against then-House Speaker Jim Wright, D Texas, which eventually brought Speaker Wright down and made possible the Republicans' re-taking of Congress in 1994 on the platform of the Contract with America.

So.....

the Great American Tragedy has begun. The leaning of the most prosperous nation in the world towards Socialism has suddenly turned in to an un-controlled skid. The descent towards mediocrity is on.

America has always been about YOU being, or at the very least, having the opportunity to be GREAT. Not second, not mediocre but the best, not middle of the road...the best, first, numero uno for our illegal friends. Democracy and capitalism work hand in hand to allow this to occur.

Socialism is not about the individual and his being anything extraordinary. It is about...Socialism. Anyone who thrives under the pogram is punished. They lose the fruits of their labor and it is shared with the ner do wells of the country. It becomes a juggling act as the socialist government takes from the achievers to give to the lazy. If the government takes to much, the achievers cease to exist. This is not good as the government needs a revenue stream. If the government takes to little, the lazy portion of society becomes disgruntled and votes them out. So a balance is sought, whereby the government searches for that fulcrum point when it takes just enough to keep the hopes of the achievers somewhat intact while being able to give things to the lazy. Government grows and Socialism survives.

Examples of the above? Canada. Great Britain. Australia. Ever notice how their governments are always electing a "new" majority to run the country. They are lurching about, looking for the fulcrum. The problem is that once you give something to the people, you can't take it back. Thus, even under a "conservative" government, the above countries are saddled with the pograms enacted by the true believers of Socialism. The question is not whether the country is Socialist or not, it is. The question is by how much.

This is the path America is now headed down. We are witnessing the sunset of Capitalism. Time is of the essence in deciding whether the descent into Socialism will be swift, like the darkness falling at the end of a winter day, or slow like a summer nite passing into twilight.

If you like the twilight as much as I, the time has come....get involved....mount up and ride to the sound of the guns.

But I've taken a good measure of this Obama fellow, and I must say I like the cut of the man's jib.

How can I say this, you ask? One look at this Obama chap is all the answer you need. Suave, tanned, unflappable, Harvard connections; it's obvious that here is a man to the conservative manor born. One imagines him at the helm of the Ship of State, basked in the sunlight diffusing through the seaspray over the bow, like some beautiful rugged Othello from a rapturous Ralph Lauren catalog, calmly issuing instructions to the deck crew in that magnificent mellifluous baritone of his. It's that easy-going, almost effortless grace that has all the A-list conservatives like David Frum and Kathleen Parker whispering Reaganesque in hushed tones. Even Peggy Noonan -- the Grand Dame of Gipperism -- has succumbed to Obama's undeniable conservative charms. Just last month I listened to her wax poetic about the Adonis of Chicago between chukkers at the Newport Club polo tournament final. "Why Peggy, you old dowager," I quipped, "I believe you just had an orgasm."

Oct. 31, 2008, will go down as yet another dark day in recent aviation history. That’s when Berlin, Germany’s historic Tempelhof Airport will cease flight operations.

What's so special about Tempelhof? Here's an excerpt from a recent article

Most associate Tempelhof with Hitler’s Third Reich, but the fact is that Tempelhof’s history stretches back to the middle ages, when the site belonged to the Knights Templar—hence the name’s “Tempel” root (“Hof” translates to “court”). Prussian kings used Tempelhof as a parade grounds until 1917.

Powered flight began at Tempelhof in 1909, when Orville Wright demonstrated his Model B Flyer. Lufthansa was founded at Tempelhof in 1926, and the airport served as a major air terminal ever since. Under Hitler, Tempelhof’s massive, curved structure was built, but World War II halted construction. During the war, fighter airplanes were built in tunnels beneath Tempelhof.

After the war, Berlin was divided between the allied nations and the Soviet Union. In 1948, the Soviet Union attempted to isolate and starve West Berlin by blocking all land and water routes to the city. The United States, along with the British and French, responded with the Berlin Airlift. This operation used the three air corridors serving West Berlin, transporting food, coal, medicine, and other necessities—yes, including candy—to Tempelhof on an around-the-clock basis. In September 1949 the Soviets relented. A monument was built in front of Tempelhof commemorating the Airlift and its pilots. To this day, the good will toward Americans established by the Airlift endures among Berliners.

I'm voting Democrat because when someone with a weapon threatens my family or me, I know the government can respond faster through a call to 911 than I can with a gun in my hand.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four elitist liberals should rewrite the Constitution every few months to suit some fringe element that could never get their agenda past voters.

I'm voting Democrat because illegal aliens are not criminals, are not sucking up resources through government aid, hospital services, education, or social services, but are just people trying to make a better life by coming to America illegally. We can't blame them for that, can we?

I'm voting Democrat because the same teacher that didn't teach my child to read can reasonably educate them about sex.

I'm voting Democrat because my trial lawyer's crippling multi-million dollar lawsuits against doctors, hospitals, drug companies, and HMO's will make health insurance and medicine much more affordable.

I wish that were the worst I could say about the man, who has survived nearly two years of campaigning for President without serious cross-examination from either the media or his media-chastened opponents. A man who, should he win the election and serve one term, will have been President of the United States longer than he has held any steady job.

AN OBAMA PANIC? MARKETS FEAR HIS POLICIES

Recently, Obama said he wants to expedite loans to small businesses, so he seems to have a clue that they produce much of the country's job growth. Yet his income-tax hike on upper brackets will hit vast numbers of small businesses - they'd face the highest rates they've seen in decades.

Overall, his plan includes some of the most lethal tax increases imaginable, including a jump in the capital-gains rate. He'd expand government spending massively, with everything from new public-works projects to increases in foreign aid to a surge in Afghanistan - plus hand out a token $500 welfare check that he calls a tax cut to everyone else.

Just how low can the markets and economy go? It could be a lot lower - it all depends on the policies of the next president. And, as it looks increasingly likely that Obama will be that man, the markets are casting a vote of "no confidence."

You think if McCain were ahead this argument would not be trumpeted?

You can trace the constrained vision back to Aristotle; the unconstrained vision to Plato. But the neatest illustration of the two visions occurred during the great upheavals of the 18th century, the American and French revolutions.

The American Revolution embodied the constrained vision. "In the United States," Sowell says, "it was assumed from the outset that what you needed to do above all was minimize [the damage that could be done by] the flaws in human nature." The founders did so by composing a constitution of checks and balances. More than two centuries later, their work remains in place.

The French Revolution, by contrast, embodied the unconstrained vision. "In France," Sowell says, "the idea was that if you put the right people in charge--if you had a political Messiah--then problems would just go away." The result? The Terror, Napoleon and so many decades of instability that France finally sorted itself out only when Charles de Gaulle declared the Fifth Republic.

What role have the two visions played in the campaign? Sen. John McCain, who is trailing, has by and large embraced the constrained vision; Sen. Barack Obama, who is leading, the unconstrained vision. Asked if Obama represents the purest expression of the unconstrained vision since Franklin Roosevelt, Sowell, himself an African-American, replies: "No. Since the beginning of American politics. This man [Obama] has been a left ideologue for 20 years."
